As of Saturday evening, the 104 coronavirus deaths linked to Broward Countys long-term facilities made up for nearly 40% of the coronavirus deaths in the county. According to the Florida Department of Healths Friday report, 28 deaths and 181 diagnoses happened at the two nursing homes. Nspire Healthcare Lauderhill also reported 91 people, including 69 residents and 22 employees, tested positive for the contagious respiratory illness. At Palms Care Center, 6 residents died and 21 residents and 14 employees were diagnosed. The coronavirus cases at long-term care facilities in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties continue to make up for 50% of the cases at long-term care facilities in the state.

Local 10 News has learned that all 48 patients who tested positive for COVID-19 at the Manor Pines Convalescent Center in Wilton Manors are at a hospital. Mike Rabold, COO of the company that oversees the facility, says that even includes seven residents who are recovering from the virus and have since tested negative. Similarly, a Miami Springs assisted living facility was seen taking dozens of residents to a hospital on Sunday. Twenty-nine staff members tested positive, with seven of them having since re-tested negative.

According to the Florida Department of Health’s Friday report, the number of residents who died of the respiratory illness increased from 3 to 16 in one week. Officials also reported 86 coronavirus cases are linked to the nursing home including 57 residents and 29 employees. They’re now calling for more to be done to protect the life of their mother, and her fellow residents. Florida’s DOH reported 83 deaths are linked to coronavirus outbreaks at long-term care facilities in Broward County.
