MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – One of America’s oldest World War II veterans celebrated a major milestone on Thursday. Miami Beach police lined up and saluted Walton as he pulled up in his vehicle on Ocean Drive Thursday morning. His son, Paul Walton, said he wants people to meet a World War II veteran because the number of surviving veterans from that war is rapidly shrinking. POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A large police presence was spotted early Friday morning inside a Pompano Beach neighborhood, which authorities said was the result of a carjacking that occurred earlier in Boca Raton. According to Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Carey Codd, Broward Regional Communications received a call shortly before 1 a.m. regarding a dark-colored Cadillac that had been stolen during a carjacking in Boca Raton. Codd said deputies tracked the vehicle, which came to a stop in the 1100 block of Northwest 18th Drive in Pompano Beach. uhh!’”Codd said another man, identified as Ariel Collazo, 23, of Tamarac, was found dead inside the stolen car from an apparent gunshot wound. LAUDERHILL, Fla. – Authorities are investigating a suspicious fire in Lauderhill that affected both a home and two vehicles. According to Lauderhill police Lt. NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - A crane being used for seawall repair slid off a barge and struck the roof of a nearby condominium building in North Miami Beach, the safety manager of the construction project told Local 10 News. A view from Sky 10 showed the top of the crane resting against the damaged roof of the building, which sits along a canal off the Intracoastal Waterway. He said the barge on which the crane was resting took on water, causing the crane to slide off and hit the roof of the four-story condo building. Smith lives in one of the eight units that are now off-limits while structural engineers assess the safety of the building. "Our effort now is (to) release the building from the stress it has and make (sure) that everything is safe," he said.

MIAMI - American Airlines is doing its part to help the Bahamas after the devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian. A Boeing 737 departed from Miami International Airport on Thursday morning to provide relief aid to employees who live in the Bahamas. The flight, packed full with 2,000 pounds of water, food, tarps and other relief supplies, was scheduled to arrive in Nassau, where the supplies would be taken by boat to Freeport and Marsh Harbour, where 37 American Airlines employees live and work. "This is such a fabulous team that we have in both locations," Jorge Ramirez, vice president for international operations for American Airlines, said. American Airlines made contact with almost all its employees in the Bahamas to make sure they're OK.

SUNRISE, Fla. - A man was fatally shot in the back Thursday night outside a duplex in Sunrise, authorities said. A neighbor told Local 10 News reporter Madeleine Wright that the victim, identified by police as Phillip Owsley, collapsed in the front yard Thursday night after he was hit in a drive-by shooting. Campbell said he called 911 and an ambulance took the victim to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died. Phillip Owsley was fatally shot July 4 in Sunrise, police say. Another resident, who did not want to be identified, said police evacuated all residents from the duplex after the incident.
