Robinson was part of a group of 18 Black athletes from the U.S. who combined for 14 medals in front of Adolf Hitler at the 1936 Games. NEAR BOYCOTTThe Berlin Games were almost boycotted by the U.S. and other nations over Germanys racist policies. The center from Texas led the Americans to a 19-8 win over Canada for the gold medal as men's basketball made its Olympic debut at the 1936 Berlin Games. Laura Hillenbrand authored Unbroken, which featured Louis Zamperini who qualified for the U.S. team in the 5,000-meter race at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
