Kadel Piedrahita was again on the witness stand Friday as he stood trial for the 2019 killing of a cyclist on the Rickenbacker Causeway.

During his testimony Thursday in Miami-Dade County court, Kadel Piedrahita said he shot a 48-year-old father of three along The Rickenbacker Causeway over five years ago — but he did not intend to kill him.

During his testimony Wednesday in Miami-Dade County court, Gustavo Londoño said he saw an angry motorcyclist argue with a cyclist and fire a gun over five years ago.

MIAMI – A Miami-Dade County judge ruled Wednesday that Kadel Piedrahita should continue to be held without bond after his arrest on a charge of second-degree murder. He is accused of shooting and killing Alex Palencia during a confrontation along the Rickenbacker Causeway. Defense attorneys argued Piedrahita was not the aggressor, even using cellphone video of the deadly confrontation to try and show that their client was firing in self-defense. Prosecutors countered, saying both the video and witnesses statements clearly show otherwise. In the end, the judge sided with the state, ruling Piedrahita continue to be held without bond while he awaits trial.

MIAMI - The suspected gunman in a fatal shooting on the Rickenbacker Causeway went before a judge Friday. The 41-year-old is accused in the shooting death of bicyclist Alex Palencia, 49, who was fatally shot Aug. 14 while cycling with a group on the Rickenbacker Causeway. "Of course, he's devastated he's in jail. Detectives said video from last month captures Piedrahita and Palencia getting into a dispute that ended with Palencia getting shot in the stomach after the scuffle. "And (that) he's not a murderer, and he did what he had to do to protect himself," Piedrahita said.

Piedrahita was riding a motorcycle when he was following Alex Palencia, 48, who was cycling with a group on the William Powell Bridge on the Rickenbacker Causeway. Detectives said Piedrahita, who was on Facebook Live as he followed the Don Pan cycling group, fatally shot Palencia on Wednesday morning in the stomach during a scuffle. "I lost my dad, the most important man in my life, without the chance to say goodbye," Palencia's daughter, Alice Palencia, wrote on Instagram. Piedrahita, whose son is a member of the Don Pan cycling group, made a threat in a video on Facebook. "I can genuinely say that this is the worst pain my heart has ever felt in my life," Alice Palencia wrote.

MIAMI - A man who fatally shot a bicyclist on the Rickenbacker Causeway in Miami has been arrested, his attorney told Local 10 News. Sabino Jauregui, the attorney for Kadel Piedrahita, said his client was taken into custody Friday. Jauregui said his client shot Palencia in self-defense. The report stated that Piedrahita shot Palencia once in the stomach before walking toward another man while screaming profanities at him. There is also video circulating on social media that shows Piedrahita ranting wildly about Palencia, even threatening to kill him.

But Palencia's family said they've watched the videos of what happened and don't believe he'd ever be an aggressor.
