Trooper Joseph Bullock was killed Feb. 5 in a shooting at a I-95 rest stop in Martin County. Authorities said Riviera Beach Police Officer Jemel Headings was off-duty when he pulled over to help Bullock and exchanged gunfire with Reed, shooting the suspect in the chest. According to Snyder, Reed turned his gun on himself, taking his own life. “The off-duty detective’s round hit the suspect in the chest and was a fatal round, not an immediately fatal round. It left Reed enough time to lift the gun up, put the gun to his head and pull the trigger,” Snyder said.

PALM CITY, Fla. – A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was killed in a shooting Wednesday on Interstate 95 in Martin County. All lanes of I-95 were closed near mile marker 107 between Martin Highway and Kanner Highway as several Florida Highway Patrol troopers, Martin County deputies and investigators from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement could be seen gathered in the area. “It is truly a tragedy and it will take a long time for the Florida Highway Patrol to heal,” Spaulding said.
