Talk about corruption.”In response to those comments, Commissioner Carollo had strong words for the man making those allegations. Mayor Suarez said he spoke with the Chief of Police, but that the department independently made the decision to release those in custody.

Ortiz came under fire after telling commissioners at a recent meeting that he identifies himself as a black male. Carollo also asked at Thursday’s meeting where City Manager Emilio Gonzalez has been. Gonzalez recently resigned following accusations from Carollo that the city manager abused his power by doctoring documents to get a work permit on his home.

Ortiz was also the officer who tried to initiate a boycott against pop star Beyoncé because of a music video that addressed police shootings.
