A Coast Guard helicopter aircrew in Clearwater rescued two people and their dog, Saturday, about 90 miles off Hernando Beach after their sailboat became disabled, authorities said.

Flooding from Hurricane Idalia’s storm surge and tree damage were keeping firefighters from getting to a house that was on fire in Hernando County, also known as Florida’s “Adventure Coast.”

After being held in limbo – meandering for days in the northwestern Caribbean – Idalia, now a strengthening hurricane, is making a beeline for Florida’s Big Bend, with devastating impacts forecast as it comes ashore as a major hurricane tomorrow.
