The image of a fierce Florida panther is emblazoned on the uniforms of a sports team that’s capturing the attention of the world. But the real Florida panther is one of just two native cats in the entire state.

A female panther was seen stealthily moving under a fence while out on the prowl in Hendry County on Saturday.

Authorities say they’ve located a Pekingese-Maltese puppy stolen from a South Florida pet store last month, but they’ve yet to find the woman accused of stealing the dog.

The crash occurred about 8 a.m. on U.S. Highway 27 near Ritta Village Road, just south of Lake Okeechobee near the Hendry County line. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue said a tractor-trailer and pickup truck were also involved. All five children who were on the bus at the time of the crash were taken to a hospital.
