U.S. oil prices are down 1.8% at $55.42 a barrel, while Brent Crude, the international benchmark, is down 1.9% at $61.55 a barrel. Two weeks ago, Saudi oil production facilities were attacked, which sent oil prices soaring the most in a decade. A deceleration in China's economy continues to weigh on oil prices too.

CNNTEHRAN - The UK-flagged oil tanker Stena Impero has left Iran, where it has been detained since July 19, and is heading for international waters. The ship sailed from Bandar Abbas port at 9 a.m. local time on Friday, Iran's state-run news agency IRNA reported. The company operating the ship, Stena Bulk, also confirmed the tanker's release. Twenty-three crew members -- none of them British -- were on board. Earlier this month, seven Indian crew members aboard the tanker were released.

The decision comes after Iran seized British-flagged Stena Impero oil tanker on Friday in the Strait of Hormuz, considered one of the world's most vital waterways for global oil supply. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani appeared to signal Wednesday that his country might be willing to release the vessel in exchange for the UK's release of a detained Iranian tanker. UK authorities alleged the tanker was attempting to transport oil to Syria, a violation of EU sanctions. Last Thursday, the U.S. Navy destroyed an Iranian drone using electronic jamming, a U.S. defense official said.

Iran will announce on Sunday new reductions to its nuclear commitments agreed to in the unraveling Iran nuclear deal, the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency reported Saturday. Sunday marks the end of a 60-day deadline Iran had issued to remaining members of the nuclear deal to ease restrictions on its banking and oil sectors. According to IRNA, Rouhani called on the European Union to act on its commitments to the nuclear deal and pointed to ending sanctions on Iran as a possible a way to move forward on the faltering accord. Rouhani also urged the US -- despite having withdrawn from the JCPOA -- and European signatories to "go back to their commitments in the nuclear deal." (CNN) - Iran will begin enriching uranium at a higher level than what is allowed under the 2015 nuclear deal within days, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Wednesday. Under the 2015 deal, Iran agreed to slash its stockpile of enriched uranium by 90%, and cap uranium enrichment at 3.67%. He has also vowed to revive work on the Arak heavy-water reactor, which had been suspended under the nuclear deal. He urged the Americans and the Europeans to "go back to their commitments in the nuclear deal." Zarif added that Iran took steps to exceed uranium caps 60 days after Trump pulled out of the deal.

Those comments prompted a response from Trump who said "Iran's very ignorant and insulting statement, put out today, only shows that they do not understand reality." He added that the US had wrongly expected to "create chaos" in Iran in two to three months, during his speech to senior health officials. After weeks of building tensions, Trump threatened airstrikes on Iran last week -- calling them off just minutes before they were due to begin -- and on Tuesday his national security adviser, John Bolton, continued the administration's tough rhetoric. "All that Iran needs to do is walk through that open door," said Bolton, known for being one of the administration's most hawkish advisers on Iran.
