He was identified as Daniel Egnor, who taught social studies at the school in Miramar for eight years. “Our entire Everglades High School community mourns the loss of one of our beloved teachers, Daniel Egnor,” Darbar said in a statement that was released by Broward County Public Schools. We all grieve the loss of our beloved teacher, Mr. Egnor who had such passion for his students and teaching. Mr. Egnor encompasses what a great teacher and role model should be.

Police say the student attends Everglades High School. "It makes me feel concerned because instead of us knowing about it, we find out after the fact that something like this is happening, which is just not right," said Clara Hernandez, Everglades High parent. In a message sent out to parents and families of Everglades High School students, Principal Haleh Darber said that a report from a student led to the gun being found. Darber also said that there were never any threats made to the school, students or staff.

Firefighters reported there was visible smoke coming from the school at 17100 SW 48th Ct., in Miramar. According to Lt. Jose Gregorisch the fire was in the boiler room, and no one was injured.
