MIAMI – The Jackson Health System started to provide the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 on Wednesday to patients who are seniors ages 65 and older. The public healthcare system will be receiving 15,000 additional doses of Pfizer’s vaccine that will be administered to seniors, according to Lidia Amoretti, a spokeswoman for Jackson Health System. The system is also preparing to launch an online platform to allow Miami-Dade County residents who are ages 65 and older to make appointments to receive the vaccine. Also in Miami-Dade, the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach is providing the vaccine to seniors ages 75 and older.

MIAMI – As economists warn more people will be unemployed in the coming weeks and months, some wealthy celebrities and athletes are stepping up to help their communities. In Miami, Alonzo Mourning and Gloria and Emilio Estefan are determined to fight hunger. “Everyone is helping out,” Gloria Estefan said. “And we thought, ‘What better way than to feed them.’ We've got great food that we can share,” Gloria Estefan said. “We're going to Jackson to Baptist to police and fire and we're going to do it 7 days a week for the next 30 days for sure,” Gloria Estefan said.

MIAMI – Emilio and Gloria Estefan were serving Thanksgiving meals in Miami to those in need. The rhythm got a hold of the married musicians during their 12th annual "Feed a Friend" event Thursday. "We try to bring people together and, you know, give a little bit back," Emilio Estefan told Local 10 News. The Estefan Kitchen expects to feed between 2,000 and 3,000 people this year with traditional American dishes and Cuban classics. Emilio Estefan said they plan to expand into Orlando next year.

The initiative is backed by the group Friends of the National Museum of the American Latino. The journey toward a Smithsonian National Museum of the American Latino began in 2004. Other museums in the making for minority groupsLatino people aren't the only ones trying to get a national Smithsonian museum. In this congressional session alone, there are similar bills for a Smithsonian Women's History Museum, a National Museum of Asian Pacific American History and Culture, and a National Museum of Irish American History. Of all the bills, the Women's History Museum has the most traction.
