Invest 93L was upgraded to Tropical Depression Ten Saturday afternoon and continues to steadily organize as it meanders near the island of Cozumel and the eastern tip of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula.

Tropical Storm Grace is heading toward the Cancún/Cozumel resort area in Mexico and then into the Gulf of Mexico.

But this one is on a beeline for the metro New Orleans area at or near hurricane strength. It also put strong winds across the Cancún resort areas before heading toward the Gulf of Mexico. The upper winds will become less supportive of a strong storm tomorrow, and the Gulf water gets colder near the northern Gulf coast. And because the storm will be moving so fast, it will take fairly strong winds well inland as well. In that transit, it will lose its tropical characteristics and become a northern storm in combination with the big upper-level low pushing it along.

Early this morning, Hurricane Delta made a direct hit on the resort areas of Cancún and Cozumel in Mexico. The larger the diameter of the storm, the greater the storm surge on the northern Gulf coast. The Gulf water piles on top of the shelf and spreads inland. The consensus of the computer forecast models and the National Hurricane Center forecast brings Delta ashore in Louisiana. The longer, arcing track has delayed the Hurricane Watches and Storm Surge Watches for the northern Gulf coast, but they will be issued today.

COZUMEL, Mexico – Two Carnival cruise ships collided while docking in a Cozumel port, video shows. As the Carnival Glory cruise ship was maneuvering to dock, its rear struck the front of the Carnival Legend while it also waited to dock. Two Carnival Cruise Line passenger ships collided with people aboard while at port in Cozumel. The ships seaworthiness was not impacted while Carnival personnel assess the entirety of the damage, Stromfeld said. Guests were allowed to disembark the ship to spend the day at the port as planned, Stromfeld said.
