The thief couldn't get a hold of anything valuable since the officer took the weapon and equipment out of the car. The SUV was at the department's headquarters in Coral Gables on Monday night. Miami-Dade police officers said there is a lesson to be learned out of the crime: Don't leave anything of value inside the car. But last month, a Miami Beach police officer left the weapon in the car, so thieves were able to steal it.
