Miami Beach Police officers were patrolling the Art Deco Cultural District around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday when they said they observed a white 2017 BMW sedan with New Jersey temporary tags parked legally in the 1400 block of Collins Avenue. The vehicle was running with the lights on, according to police, who decided to make a traffic stop because the car’s side windows had illegally tinted sunscreen and a records check of the license plate came back not on file. When asked if he had guns in the car, Jubran said he had a handgun in the driver’s side door and a rifle in the trunk and that he had a valid Florida concealed weapons license.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A reckless driver on Friday in South Beach turned out to be an armed convicted felon who was wanted in Georgia, according to the Miami Beach Police Department. Officers reported Owens struck an officer on an SUV with his vehicle in an attempt to get away from them. The officer was treated at a local urgent care and Owen was arrested. While officers were trying to put Owens inside a marked police car, he kicked an officer in the groin area and the officer punched him in the leg, according to the arrest form. AdOwens is facing charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, possession of a weapon and ammunition by a convicted felon, unlawful taking of a law enforcement officer’s firearm, possession of a controlled substance.

SUNNY ISLES BEACH, Fla. – Law enforcement officials are increasing pedestrian safety enforcement two weeks after an 11-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle in Sunny Isles Beach and later lost his life. According to Sunny Isles Police Sergeant Brian Schnell, people are unaware of just how dangerous stretches of highways in South Florida truly are – and this most recent tragedy is an example of that. On Friday, Sunny Isles Beach Police were seen patrolling Collins Avenue doing high visibility enforcement to try and prevent a tragedy before it happens again. The enforcement program is a partnership between Sunny Isles Police Department and researchers from the University of North Florida. According to Sunny Isles Police, they reached out to the department in November of 2020 to uncover how Collins Avenue, between 170th and 189th streets, was a hot spot for dangerous accidents.

Officers arrested Jasmine Bradley on Friday in Miami Beach. (MDRC)Witnesses identified Bradley as the woman who used stainless-steel grooming scissors to stab the victim about eight times. The victim’s facial wounds were on the right cheek, right eyebrow, and lower lip. She also suffered wounds to the back of the neck, both shoulders, and upper arm.

According to MBPD they received a call just after 4 p.m. about a body in the water and, upon arrival, officers discovered a deceased male near the dock at the Indian Creek Waterway. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A distracted Uber driver who was texting ran over a police officer on Thursday evening in South Beach, police said. According to the Miami Beach Police Department, the officer was working on a narcotics-related investigation near the intersection of Collins Avenue and 14th Street. The injured police officer was in stable condition and was expected to recover at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, police said. Police officers issued the driver citations for texting while driving, failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, and a violation of Florida’s move over law for emergency vehicles.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – The vicious attack of a 63-year-old man with a hammer in Miami Beach was caught on surveillance video, and the attacker is now behind bars. Family members of Eugenio Torres say he had just bought some scratch-offs at a convenience store. Surveillance video shows a man in an orange sweatshirt first grabbing a bicycle and throwing it at Torres. The suspect then grabbed a hammer and struck Torres repeatedly. “I just can’t believe this guy did that to my uncle.”Police arrested Jaime Salmon Vega, 34, of Miami Beach, who they say also snatched a gold chain valued at $600 off Torres’ neck.

According to police, a man that was stabbed in the stomach was able to flag down an officer sometime Wednesday evening. As officers searched for clues, the crime scene appeared to grow outward from the intersection of Collins and 10th Street. Detectives said the victim was not being helpful with trying to come up with a description of his attacker, or a motive behind the attack. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Police are looking for a white BMW SUV as they investigate gunfire near the Fontainebleau Miami Beach on Wednesday morning. Miami Beach police say they received multiple 911 calls around 8:30 a.m. reporting that someone in that BMW fired several shots in the area of 44th Street and Collins Avenue. Nobody was seriously injured, Miami Beach Police public information officer Ernesto Rodriguez said. A white Mercedes that had been shot multiple times was located in North Beach near 74th Street. BAL HARBOUR, Fla. – Miami-Dade Police are searching for a silver KIA sedan that fled the scene after striking a bicyclist on Collins Avenue. Police said around 6 p.m. on Saturday, a 14-year-old was riding along the 10200 block of Collins Avenue. The vehicle was traveling northbound when the driver struck the bicyclist. The silver KIA sedan should have front right-end and windshield damage, according to police. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. A 31-year-old woman has been arrested in the hit-and-run that was caught on camera last month on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach. Lisa Smith, of Aventura, was arrested Tuesday and charged with leaving the scene of a crash that caused serious bodily injury. A woman was crossing Collins Avenue, police say, when a white Mercedes hit her, sending the pedestrian flying in the air. Three days later, police found the white Mercedes with front-end damage in an Aventura parking lot. Smiths attorney reported that she told him that the pedestrian crossed the street while Smith had a green light.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Four people were struck by a hit-and-run driver in a busy area of Miami Beach. It happened Saturday just after 7 p.m. along Collins Avenue and 63rd Street. Two of the people hit by the driver were rushed to a nearby hospital, one with serious facial injuries that required plastic surgery, police said. Police caught up to the driver shortly after the crash along Normandy Drive. Police arrested Alli-Balukoff on felony charges of DUI with serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of a crash with great bodily injury, as well as two charges of reckless driving.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Police have arrested a man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Miami Beach. Keith Brown was arrested Friday in Miami-Dade County and was being interviewed by detectives, Miami Beach police said. Brown is accused of shooting Latoya Wiggins early Sunday near Collins Avenue and 10th Street. Witnesses said they saw Wiggins arguing with a man moments before the shooting. Surveillance video shows a man, identified by police as Brown, running down the street after the shooting.

Police say a man and a woman were arguing on the street when the man pulled out a gun and fired multiple times. He fled the scene heading north on Collins Court and threw his weapon around 11th Street, police said. The beaches that were affected by the Aug. 21 advisory were: Surfside, 93rd Street North Shore, 73rd Street Collins Park, 21st Street South Beach (Collins Avenue and South Pointe Drive) Virginia Beach Crandon North and Crandon SouthHealth officials said the advisory was lifted Friday based on satisfactory microbial water quality test results. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Miami Beach robbery detectives arrested a man Thursday who they said snatched cellphones from at least three tourists this week. The first robbery occurred around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday as the 46-year-old victim from the Bronx was walking along the 1000 block of Collins Avenue. According to Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez, the man approached the victim from behind and snatched her Samsung cellphone from her hand. The second robbery occurred around 7:10 a.m. Wednesday along 18th Street and Collins Avenue. Rodriguez said the 35-year-old victim from Ocoee, near Orlando, was also walking when the thief snatched her iPhone from her hand.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. - A boater who was diving Thursday in waters near Haulover Inlet was hospitalized after possibly being bitten by a shark, authorities said. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Two people were rescued after a boat caught fire Friday morning in Miami Beach. The boaters were pulled from Indian Creek between Collins Avenue and West 59th Street, according to the Miami Beach Fire Department. A view from Sky 10 showed firefighters dousing the boat for hot spots. It was not immediately known what caused the fire or if the boaters were injured.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A man killed in a hit-and-run crash early Tuesday in Miami Beach has been identified as Andrew Hamilton, 27, who was a tourist visiting from the U.K.Police said a man driving a silver BMW sped past a police office on Collins Avenue near 15th Street about 2:30 a.m. When the officer went to investigate, he found Hamilton dead in the street near Collins Avenue at 11th Street. "He was traveling southbound from about 15th Street at a very high rate of speed, which resulted in this tragedy," Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez said. Police questioned three women who were in the car, but said the driver ditched the car and ran off. Anyone with information about the identity of the driver is asked to call Miami Beach police or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
