Tropical Depression Twelve strengthened to Tropical Storm Larry Wednesday morning, and the National Hurricane Center forecasts that it could strengthen to a hurricane on Thursday.

Tropical Storm Fred officially became the sixth named storm of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season late Tuesday night as it strengthened and became better organized while moving south of Puerto Rico. The center of Fred is now just south of the eastern Dominican Republic.

Tropical Storm Elsa will move into the Florida Straits Monday evening, and it will pass near the Florida Keys early Tuesday. Residents of the lower and middle Florida Keys will feel sustained tropical storm winds, 40 mph or higher.

MIAMI – Many South Florida homeowners have been shocked by the amount of flooding left behind by Tropical Storm Eta. “We’ve had flooding like this from tropical storms before, this was not really an exceptional flood for South Florida, we just haven’t had one in a while,” Norcross said. The rainy tropical system came on the heels of a wet month of October, but another compounding factor was also at play; sea level rise. For sea level rise specialists and researchers, the widespread flooding is a reminder about the urgency of the region’s on-going conversations related to resiliency and adaption. So, we have a lot of issues to deal with, we have to solve the climate crisis and we have to figure out how to live with a rising sea.”

If it does happen, two more storms during the 2020 hurricane season will bring the count to an unparalleled 29th and 30th named storms of the season. However, Norcross said the disturbance in the Atlantic does not appear that it could be a threat to the United States. How likely is it that we see a Theta or Iota before the end of hurricane season on Nov. 30? He did point out that just because Nov. 30 is the official end of the hurricane season does not mean we could be done with disturbances. “Sometimes in a busy season, storms can form after the end of the November,” he said.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – There is “sloppy, sloppy weather” in the South Florida forecast as Tropical Depression Eta moves north, Local 10 Chief Certified Meteorologist Betty Davis says. Eta is the storm that slammed Nicaragua as a Category 4 hurricane on Tuesday before weakening to now a depression. PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – The tropical disturbance in the central Caribbean Sea became Tropical Storm Eta on Saturday. The 28th named storm of the year makes history as this is the first time Eta has been used to name a storm. Eta is expected to become a hurricane early next week as it approaches the coast of Central America later Monday and Monday night. But if the high were to weaken, or move out earlier than forecast, the storm may lose its push and stall. Tropical Storm Zeta in 2005 formed on December 30 on the other side of the Atlantic.

Tropical Storm Kyle set a record for being the earliest developing K storm in the record book. Tropical Storm Josephine is hanging on but should start to weaken over the weekend as it passes the Caribbean islands to the north. Tropical Storm Kyle moved off the Mid-Atlantic coast over the Gulf Stream yesterday and promptly got named. It is forecast to intensify a bit as it speeds east into the North Atlantic. The tropical Atlantic is quiet and is forecast to remain so into the middle of next week, at least.

The closure affects over 270 parks that will be closed by 8 p.m. on Friday. Authorities will consider reopening the public spaces on Sunday. During a news conference, Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez said residents need to prepare for the hurricane season. PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. If Hurricane Isaias and its too-close-for-comfort path near South Florida has you wondering if you should shutter up your home or condo, we wanted to know, too. So, we asked our Hurricane Specialist Bryan Norcross. He stressed that it is a good precaution, but only if your shutters are the type that are easy to access, such as pull shutters or roll down shutters. So, those living along the coast in Broward County, especially in northern Broward County, north of Fort Lauderdale and up to Deerfield Beach, can be better safe than sorry and shutter up for Isaias. For now, “uncertainty” continues to be the keyword regarding Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine — a system that could be in the vicinity of the Florida Keys and South Florida Saturday, possibly bringing tropical storm conditions. Pinpointing the exact level of impact for the region continues to be a difficult task as the system tries to organize and become a tropical storm. However, hurricane hunters have not yet found a well-defined center of circulation that would upgrade the disturbance to Tropical Storm Isaias. Forecasters still believe it will become a tropical storm sometime Wednesday. PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – South Florida remained under a Tropical Storm Watch late Thursday night, as authorities prepared for Tropical Storm Isaias to affect South Florida and the Northwest Bahamas on Saturday. The National Hurricane Center issued that watch for the east coast of Florida from Ocean Reef northward to Sebastian Inlet. On the Hurricane Center’s forecast track, the center of Isaias had moved near the southeastern Bahamas by late Thursday night. Hurricane Specialist Bryan NorcrossWarm waters are strengthening Isaias into a Category 1 Hurricane, but the stronger the storm will get the farther away it will move from Florida. A broad tropical disturbance extending from the Caribbean north into the Atlantic waters is heading west in the strong flow across the ocean. The disturbance technically a tropical wave will move across South Florida as a moisture surge late tomorrow into Tuesday. When the disturbance moves into the Gulf of Mexico mid to late week, the atmospheric conditions are expected to be somewhat conducive for development. This disturbance represents a moist gap in the plume of Saharan Dust that has been covering the tropical Atlantic much of the summer. As a result, no tropical development is expected in the tropical Atlantic or the Caribbean this week.

Hurricane season is just two weeks away and emergency management agencies in South Florida are preparing for more than just a busy season -- theyre also adjusting their plans with the coronavirus pandemic in mind. Emergency management officials are juggling the tasks of reducing the spread of COVID-19 while preparing for the fast-approaching hurricane season. Coconut Palm Elementary School in Miramar is one of 33 hurricane shelters in Broward County. The pandemic has definitely brought us new challenges for hurricane season, said Shannon Weiner, Director of Emergency Management for Monroe County. Weiner said all four of the countys hurricane shelters are at schools, and normally evacuees are housed in the cafeteria and auditorium.

Ron DeSantis said all Floridians need to be prepared for the threat of Hurricane Dorian. DeSantis spoke to reporters Thursday morning at the National Hurricane Center in Miami. Trump also took to Twitter Thursday to warn Floridians to be prepared for the storm and to follow state and federal instructions. DeSantis said he's also requesting a pre-landfall declaration from the federal government for protective measures and direct assistance for generators and pumps.
