A former Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy, fired in 2022 for excessive force, was arrested by his ex-employer Thursday on two child abuse charges.

Detectives with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a 17-year-old male in connection with a shooting that injured two people near Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach earlier this month, authorities confirmed Tuesday.

Deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office responded to a high school Friday morning after receiving a report that a student brought a gun on campus.

Ten out of about 1,200 school buses will be electric on the first day of school on Monday — for the first time in the history of Broward County Public Schools — and there are 50 more on the way.

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A crane collapsed on its side Thursday morning behind Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach. School officials said construction work was being done on a new building on campus when the incident occurred. “The area of campus where the accident happened is not used by any students or school staff,” the statement read. The operator was inside the crane at the time of the incident, but no injuries were reported. School officials said an aluminum awning located next to the building that is under construction was damaged during the incident.
