A tropical storm warning was in effect for the northwestern Bahamas, excluding Andros Island, the center said. "Since there is increasing confidence that the storm will remain well offshore of the coast of Florida, the tropical storm watch for that area has been discontinued," the center said. Swells generated by the tropical storm are expected to increase and affect the coasts of central Florida to South Carolina through early next week.

CNN Video(CNN) - A tropical depression is poised to hit the same northern Bahamian islands that Hurricane Dorian ravaged earlier this month -- and it may be a tropical storm when it does. The storm strengthened into a tropical depression Friday afternoon, and likely will grow in strength into a tropical storm named Humberto, with maximum sustained winds of at least 39 mph, over the next day, forecasters say. The center of Tropical Depression Nine was about 140 miles east-southeast of Great Abaco at 5 p.m. Tropical storm warnings have been issued for areas of the northern Bahamas. A tropical storm watch has been issued for portions of the east coast of Florida, affecting about 3 million people, according to forecasters.

WELLINGTON, Fla. - Prior to Hurricane Dorian arriving in the Bahamas, local business owner Bill Albury, like so many others in the area, felt he was prepared as best he could. Albury is a sixth-generation Bahamian and he says Dorian is the worst storm he's ever experienced. He made sure his restaurant, Snappas, in Marsh Harbour, was secure. His home was boarded up with storm shutters, in addition to some hurricane impact windows. None of that was a match for Hurricane Dorian, though.

After they landed, U.S. Customs and Border Protection says it "made multiple attempts to contact family members" but those efforts were unsuccessful. It was at that point, according to the Herald, that CBP says it transferred Keytora to Department of Health and Human Services custody, separating her from her aunt because she wasn't the girl's biological parent. A spokesperson from U.S. Customs and Border Protection released a statement Tuesday that read, in part:"CBP made multiple attempts to contact family members however was unsuccessful, resulting in the need to transfer the child to Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) custody. CBP has been in contact with the child's mother and is working through HHS to verify legitimate caretakers and reunite them."
Animals rescued from Grand Bahama shelter flown to South Florida
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Hundreds of animals trapped in a Bahamian shelter during Hurricane Dorian were flown to South Florida on Wednesday. A total of 75 dogs and 86 cats were rescued from the Humane Society of Grand Bahama. The shelter flooded during Dorian's landfall and staff members were trapped inside with neck-high water. Wings of Rescue, Greater Good and the International Fund for Animal Welfare sponsored the flight to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The cats will be flown to St. Hubert's Animal Welfare in New Jersey.

Aid is arriving slowly on the island of Grand Bahama, where Dorian parked for almost two days and caused damage one usually witnesses in a war zone. On August 30, CNN sent the three of us to Freeport, on Grand Bahama, to cover the storm. We had to scramble to catch American Airlines flight 3489 from Miami, which turned out to be the last from the US to Grand Bahama before Dorian hit. Late the next night, Dorian began pummeling the Abacos and Grand Bahama as an insanely powerful Category 5 Hurricane. "Grand Bahama right now is dead," Smith said, trauma carved into his face.

Future uncertain for 70,000 in Bahamas left homeless by Dorian

Cruise line offering evacuations to those on Grand Bahama Island
(CNN) - Bahamas Paradise Cruise Lines is offering Bahamians stranded by Hurricane Dorian a way home. The Florida-based cruise line is taking supplies, first responders and Bahamian evacuees in Florida to Grand Bahama Island on Thursday. The cruise line told CNN that the Grand Celebration ship will also be offering the chance for Bahamians to evacuate to Florida free of charge, given they have the proper documentation. "We felt like we had to do this for the people of the Bahamas and the island of Grand Bahama, especially given our history with the island." Royal Caribbean previously brought in supplies to Caribbean areas hit hard by the hurricanes, including after Hurricane Maria hit Puerta Rico.

Voiceless Dogs of Nassau, Bahamas, told CNN Phillips is a "one-woman band," caring for more than 200 homeless dogs every year with little assistance. Phillips said in a Facebook post Monday that her home had flooded, but all 97 dogs were doing well.

NASSAU, Bahamas - Police say a helicopter has crashed in the Bahamas, killing seven Americans, the Associated Press reports. The helicopter was en route to Fort Lauderdale, and went down two miles off Grand Cay island, with four women and three men, Bahamian police said. Those on board were not identified by police, but Beckley, West Virginia's Register-Herald newspaper quoted Governor Jim Justice as saying one victim was mining entrepreneur Chris Cline, whose spokesman did not return calls Thursday night. A cause of the crash is not known but police in the Bahams said civilian aviation authorities on the island have launched an investigation.
