This Week in South Florida: Paul Renner

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Can Florida lawmakers do what parents and teachers may not be able to do and get kids off social media?

Last week, the house passed a bill to ban young people under 16 from social media platforms.

Living online has become as much a part of life for young people as TV and telephones were to their parents, but comes with a whole set of mental health related issues that TV and telephones never did.

But is it the state government’s role to manage or ban it?

Social media use for minors is House Bill No. 1, and one of the priorities of Florida House Speaker Paul Renner.

He joined This Week in South Florida host Glenna Milberg to discuss, and their conversation can be seen at the top of this page.
