Jeter wants to axe Marlins Park home run sculpture, report says

MIAMI – Derek Jeter's first move as Marlins head honcho may not be to increase the payroll or hire new scouts, it may be something more obvious.

According to a report, Jeter is ready to take a bat to the home run sculpture behind left-centerfield at Marlins Park and demolish it to franchise history.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports claims Jeter has already made up his mind on the sculpture created by artist Red Grooms and reportedly cost up to $2.5 million to create.

Jeter reportedly wants the tacky sculpture gone faster than a ripped Giancarlo Stanton line drive homer.

Marlins fans have had a love/hate relationship with the sculpture commissioned by owner Jeffrey Loria since it was unveiled before the opening of the stadium in 2012.

If a proposed sale to Derek Jeter and his partners is confirmed, the Yankees great will oversee all baseball operations.
