Kenya's Faith Kipyegon beat world champion Genzebe Dibaba of Ethiopia to win the Olympic women's 1,500-meter gold medal at Rio 2016.
Jenny Simpson of the US won the bronze.
Simpson, a 29-year-old Florida native, competed in her third Olympics, after failing to medal in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 2008 and in the 1500-meter in 2012.
The three-time defending national outdoor champion in the distance, she won a gold medal in the 1500 at the 2011 World Championships and a silver in that same event in 2013.
