MIAMI – Four roster moves were made Monday by the Miami Marlins in preparation for their series opener against the Cincinnati Reds at loanDepot park.

Catcher Agustín Ramírez, one of three prospects acquired by the Marlins in the trade that sent Jazz Chisholm Jr. to the New York Yankees last summer, was called up by the Marlins Monday.

Ranked as the Marlins’ No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline, Ramírez posted a .254/.313/.479 slash line with three home runs and 12 RBIs in 19 games for Triple-A Jacksonville.

The Marlins brought Ramírez up after the team placed catcher Rob Brantley on the 10-day injured list due to a right lat strain.

Catcher Nick Fortes, the Opening Day starter, was placed on the 10-day injured list Apr. 11 because of a left oblique strain and has not returned to the lineup since.

“Ramírez has a compact right-handed swing with bat speed and strength, which allows him to make a lot of hard contact. Though his solid power plays from foul pole to foul pole, he has a pull-heavy approach that can result in too many rolled-over ground balls at times. He has a tendency to chase pitches out of the strike zone, yet he still puts the ball in play and draws a healthy amount of walks,” according to an MLB.com scouting report.

Ramírez will bat sixth Monday and catch for Marlins right-handed pitcher Max Meyer, looking for his second win of 2025.
