MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins offseason remains anything but quiet.
Reports emerged on Tuesday morning that the Dolphins were going to move on from cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
During his pre-draft news conference, General Manager Chris Grier confirmed those reports.
Grier said, “After a couple weeks of discussion between ourselves internally and Jalen and his representation, we decided that it was in the interest of all parties to move forward... I will say these decisions aren’t done quickly and aren’t taken lightly.”
Grier said, “At the end of the day, Jalen did not ask for a trade.”
Grier said this is the best chance to help the Dolphins win now and in the future.
Ramsey would join a list of veterans no longer on the Dolphins roster that includes Jevon Holland, Terron Armstead, and Calais Campbell.
As for all of the losses, Grier said that they have enough leadership in-house.
Grier said, “We know the expectations... Mike and leaders on the team have been meeting all offseason talking about things.”
The Dolphins General Manager would not comment further on the most recent domestic incident involving Tyreek Hill. He said that he did not want to comment on people’s personal lives beyond that statement.
As for the upcoming draft, Grier said, “The draft sort of lines up with the positions of need for us that people perceive and what’s on our roster right now... For us, we think at 13 there will be good players there that are NFL-ready players.”
Grier said he hasn’t received calls on Tyreek Hill.
He did say that if teams are willing to give the Dolphins two first-round picks, they’d be willing to listen.
Grier said, “We see how he works and how his teammates interaction, because they voted him captain... For us very optimistic about him.”
Grier joked about criticism that he and Mike McDaniel hear.
Grier told a story about a fan who sent him a package.
It contained a nice letter wishing him the best.
Along with the letter came a shirt that read, “Don’t F this up.”
