Cristobal calls narratives about decision to sit Cam Ward for second half of bowl game: ‘bulls***’

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Canes Head Coach Mario Cristobal came to the defense of Cam Ward on Monday.

Ward had taken criticism after sitting out the second half of the Canes loss to Iowa State in the Pop Tarts Bowl.

On Monday, Cristobal offered some clarity on the situation.

Cristobal said that when it became clear that the quarterback was going to be the No. 1 player selected in the upcoming NFL draft, a decision was made.

That decision was to play Ward for just the first half of the game.

Cristobal called anything reported about Ward sitting as a “false narrative.”

Cristobal said, “Decisions were made that were best for everybody and they played out that way.”

Cristobal added, “I don’t feel the need to race to go squash false narratives and a bunch of bull**** that people like to start because that’s their way of doing their job.”

The coach added that Ward was an exceptional Miami Hurricane.
