Multiple sources confirmed to ESPN on Sunday that McCullough, 44, who has been the Los Angeles Dodgers’ first base coach since 2021, will replace Skip Schumaker, who parted ways with the Marlins at the end of the 2023-2024 season.
Marlins appear to have found their new manager. Well respected and coming from a World Series winning team.

McCullough had been in the running for the Chicago White Sox manager role, but that position went to Will Venable. Although Craig Albernaz, the Cleveland Guardians bench coach, was considered a leading candidate for the Marlins, he later withdrew from consideration.
McCullough brings experience from his time coaching with the Dodgers, including their journey to another World Series title. He previously interviewed for manager roles with several teams, including the Guardians, Royals, Brewers, and Mets.
Before joining the Dodgers, McCullough managed in the Toronto Blue Jays’ minor league system and then worked as the Dodgers’ minor league field coordinator in 2015. During that time, Marlins assistant GM Gabe Kapler was overseeing player development with the Dodgers, creating an early connection between the two.
The Marlins are now looking for a resurgence under McCullough’s leadership.
Since their 2003 World Series win, they’ve only made the playoffs twice and finished no higher than third in the NL East since 2020. Last season, Miami won 62 games, their lowest since 2019, and Schumaker finished his two-year tenure with a 146-178 record.
