MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – An extremely rough start to the Miami Dolphins season just got quite bit worse as they are going to be without a key member of their defense for an extended period of time.
Dolphins defensive end Jaelan Phillips announced on social media Tuesday that he would be having reconstructive knee surgery.

He will be out for the remainder of the season.
Phillips was injured during Miami’s 31-12 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Monday night at Hard Rock Stadium.
“I believe that our lives are defined by hour we handle adversity,” Phillips wrote. “In these moments of uncertainty, defeat, and sorrow, it is natural to question your purpose and wonder what is the meaning of this pain. I know that my purpose is to inspire people to never give up, no matter how many times you get knocked down.”
This is the second straight season that Phillips has suffered a significant injury that required surgery.
Last year during Miami’s Week 12 road game against the New York Jets, Phillips ruptured his Achilles, ending his season.
“The mission is still the mission,” Phillips wrote. “I have unfinished business to take care of and I will come out of this trial victorious.”
