Marlins President of Baseball Operations keeps conversations with Skip Schumaker private as two sides part

MIAMI – Peter Bendix, the Marlins President of Baseball Operations, addressed reporters on Tuesday.

He called the Marlins season disappointing and frustrating after the team finished 62-100.

The Marlins and manager Skip Schumaker decided to mutually part ways on Sunday.

Schumaker won manager of the year in 2023 and led the Marlins to the Playoffs.

Bendix said, “I have a lot of respect for Skip. I enjoyed working with him. I’m going to keep the private conversations that we had private. I wish him and his family nothing but the best.”

Bendix says he has plans to speak with the rest of the coaching staff later this week.

On picking the next manager, Bendix said, “There’s a lot of different ways, a lot of different styles of being a great manager. We’re going to run a thorough process and explore a lot of different candidates. No timeline for it because we want to get the right manager for us.”

As to why this would be an attractive job for a potential manager, Bendix said, “I’m excited about what we’re building. I think that we saw a lot of positive things throughout the season... I think we have a foundation for something that could be real exciting.”
