Tua Tagovailoa says he has something to prove heading into season

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – He has the big contract and now it’s time to perform.

Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is ready to start the season Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Despite, an impressive season where Tagovailoa threw for 4.624 yards and 29 touchdowns, the quarterback still feels like he has something to prove.

Tagovailoa said, “Yeah I think that’s how you’ve got to come into the season every year. You’ve got to come in with something to prove every time. Everyone else is. Rookies are, 17-year-vets are... I don’t think anyone comes in thinking, ‘is this a season where I’m going to be healthy?’ or I could do good, or I could be average or whatever. I think everyone wants to be really really good this first week and trying to sustain that for the whole year.”

The quarterback also feels really impressed by his teammates so far throughout camp and preseason.

As a result, he’s confident the Dolphins can achieve big goals this year.

Tagovailoa said, “Just because of the practices that we’ve had, the intensity of the practices going against our 1′s and the 1′s going against us. There’s been a lot of things that have trickled into the locker room that haven’t happened in years prior. I would say that’s just the feel of dang this does feel different. We’ve got some dogs on this team.”

The Dolphins reached the Playoffs in both of the last two seasons, but were knocked out in the Wild Card game both times.

Head Coach Mike McDaniel and the Dolphins have made it clear that one of their goals for this season is to break the team’s 24 year playoff victory drought.
