Copa America final in Miami: Here are some facts about Argentina’s soccer team

Argentina is a 3-time FIFA World Cup winner and a 15-time Copa America winner

MIAMI – The Copa América final is between Argentina and Colombia at 8 p.m., on Sunday, at the Hard Rock Stadium, in Miami Gardens.

Miami-Dade County officials expect over 60,000 fans will be at the stadium and local fans will flood restaurants, bars, and watch parties across South Florida.

Here are some facts about Argentina’s national soccer team:

  • Argentina’s national team gets to the final undefeated for the last 10 matches since losing to Uruguay 2-0 on Nov. 16.
  • To get to the final, Argentina beat Canada 2-0 on June 20, Chile 1-0 on June 25, Peru 2-0 on June 29, tied Ecuador 1-1 on June 24, and beat Canada again 2-0 on July 9.
  • Since the Copa América started in 1916, Argentina won first place in 1921, 1925, 1927, 1929, 1937, 1941, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1955, 1957, 1959, 1991, 1993, 2021. The Albiceleste won second place in 1916, 1917, 1920, 1923, 1924, 1926, 1935, 1942, 1967, 2004, 2007, 2015, and 2016.
  • The current team’s 37-year-old star is Lionel “Leo” Messi, who plays for Inter Miami. He is 37 and was born in Rosario.
  • Lionel Scaloni is the team’s head coach. He was the manager of the 2022 FIFA World Cup victors.
  • Since the FIFA World Cup started in 1930, Argentina’s national team has won three times with two other victories in 1978 and 1986. The team also won the FIFA World Cup’s 2nd place in 1930, 1990, and 2014.
