MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins are making moves to keep their own young players.
On Monday, the Dolphins announced that they’ll exercise the fifth-year options on linebacker Jaelan Phillips and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.

Phillips had 6.5 sacks last season.
Phillips is recovering from surgery following a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 12 against the Jets.
Waddle had his third consecutive season with over 1,000-yards in 2023.
He’s the first player in franchise history to do so.
The Dolphins have developed these talented young players and now have an extra year on their contracts, before coming up with a long-term plan.
Both Waddle and Phillips could command big second contracts, if the Dolphins choose to extend them beyond what they have so far.
