MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Miami Dolphins Head Coach Mike McDaniel spoke to reporters before the team practiced at the Baptist Health Training Complex on Friday.

McDaniel said running back Raheem Mostert (knee/ankle) and Jaylen Waddle (ankle) both got a little work in at Friday’s practice before a determination will be made on their status for the Buffalo game.

Waddle told reporters that it “felt good” to get some reps in at Friday’s practice, but his status for Sunday’s game has not been determined.

He also added that neither player has closed the door on the idea of playing in Sunday’s AFC East title game against the Buffalo Bills.

McDaniel also showed support for wide receiver Tyreek Hill after his mansion caught fire on Wednesday.

He called the situation “a major stressor” and said that Hill is a “powerful human being and spirit and will lead his family through it, but it’s something that he’s definitely dealing with.”

Hill returned to practice Friday after missing Thursday’s practice for what the team called “ankle/personal reasons.”

Starting linebackers David Long Jr. and Duke Riley both are on the injury report, but McDaniel says they’re both expected to play in Sunday’s game.

McDaniel said starting guard Robert Hunt has made good progress during the week and McDaniel is “optimistic” he’ll play Sunday night.

McDaniel also added that there have been no setbacks with linebacker Jerome Baker so far this week and McDaniel said he’s also “optimistic” that he’ll be ready to go Sunday after coming off of injured reserve.

Regarding the team’s six Pro Bowl selections, McDaniel singled out the three players selected for the first time — Tua, Alec Ingold and Raheem Mostert, the latter having entered the NFL as undrafted free agents and added that all six of them were “super deserving of it.”

McDaniel pointed out that when his players call Sunday’s game “just another game,” it’s a product of having treated every game to this point as a playoff game.

McDaniel said linebacker/ defensive end Bradley Chubb has had surgery on his right knee to repair his torn ACL. He will be placed on injured reserve Saturday if the Dolphins, as expected, activate Baker off IR.

Starting cornerback Xavien Howard was also ruled out for Sunday’s game.

The Miami Dolphins (11-5) will host the Buffalo Bills (10-6) at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday Night Football. A win will give the Dolphins their first AFC East Championship since 2008.

A loss will drop them to the 6th seed where they will face the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
