Eric Spoelstra joins Heat in Bahamas following birth of daughter, wary of Hurricane Ian impact back home

NASSAU, Bahamas – Miami Heat Head Coach Erik Spoelstra joined his team in the Bahamas on Wednesday for the first time this training camp.

The coach was away since Monday to be with his wife, Nikki, for the birth of their daughter, Ruby Grace.

Spoelstra told Local 10 News’ Will Manso it was an incredible experience to be with his family and it was love at first sight.

“Everybody has been telling me that this little girl is going to totally change my life, and I can already see that right now,” Spoelstra explained with a big smile.

The coach was also excited to be back with his Heat family, but he made clear the people being impacted back home by Hurricane Ian were on his mind.

“We didn’t know if we’d be able to be down here (Bahamas) so we’re very grateful for that, but there’s going to be a lot of other people who are going feel it, and we’re thinking about them,” Spoelstra said.
