MIAMI – One of the Miami Heat’s key players from last season’s 53-win squad is looking for a bigger payday.

Heat forward P.J. Tucker is declining his $7.4 million player option for the 2022-23 season, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The move was expected following Tucker’s strong season in Miami.

Tucker, who turned 37 in May, averaged 7.6 points and 5.5 rebounds while providing excellent defense and an outside shooting threat.

Miami is still considered a favorite to retain Tucker’s services. He fit in well with Heat coach Erik Spoelstra and the overall culture surrounding the team.

NBA free agency is expected to start sometime in late June. The league has yet to release an official start date.
