MIAMI – After the entire Marlins team wears the number 16 Monday night, no one with the franchise will wear the number again.
Marlins management announced prior to Monday's game that the team will not allow any player to wear Jose Fernandez's number.

However, if it sounds like the team is retiring the number, for some reason the Marlins swear they're not.
While they won't officially make the move to retire the jersey at the current time, team owner Jeffrey Loria said that he doesn't want anyone to wear it ever again.
"There are plenty of numbers they can wear," Loria said. "But not that one. We'll let them use triple digits if we have to."
Fernandez, 24, was killed early Sunday morning when a boat he was in slammed into a jetty off Miami Beach.
Wearing his number 16 jersey, Fernandez was supposed to take the mound vs. the Mets.
Following Fernandez's death, many players around the major leagues wrote the number 16 on their hats to honor one of the most popular players in the country.
