Nominations are now open for the 2020 African-American Achievers Awards.
What does that mean for you? Well, if you know a particularly inspirational individual from the South Florida community who deserves some recognition, you should consider nominating that person for these prestigious awards.
Nominations will be accepted through 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29.
The 28th annual awards ceremony, presented by JM Family Enterprises, Southeast Toyota Distributors and JM Lexus, will recognize four inspirational African-Americans for their hard work on Thursday, April 23 at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The event is free and open to the public.

Established in 1992 by Jim Moran, an automotive pioneer and founder of JM Family and its subsidiaries, the program recognizes leaders for their exceptional contributions toward building stronger communities in South Florida.
Moran's goal was to say thank you to unsung local role models who:
- Reach beyond themselves to improve the lives of others
- Motivate future generations and inspire change
- Invest their time and talents to build a stronger community
Awards are given to people who set an example through community involvement and leadership in four categories: Arts and Culture, Business and Entrepreneurism, Community Service and Education.
In honor of their efforts, achievers are granted $10,000 to donate to the charity or charities of their choice.
An additional $500 is donated to the charity of choice for those whose nominee is selected as an African-American Achiever, for a total campaign contribution of $42,000 to community nonprofit organizations.
