No description found

CORAL GABLES, Fla. ā€“ Coral Gables police are investigating who shot and killed two macaws in the median of South Dixie Highway last week.

Officers responded to a 911 call on March 23 from someone who had seen the dead birds in the middle of the road near the 200 block of U.S. Highway 1.

The birds were determined to have been shot that morning while in their nest atop a palm tree in the median.

Other birds about a year old were found alive in the nest.

The blue-and-gold macaws had been shot with a pellet or BB gun, or possibly another type of small-caliber firearm.

As Coral Gables is considered to be a bird sanctuary, it is illegal to kill any kind of bird in the city.

Police are asking anyone who has any information to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
