ALGARVE COAST, PORTUGAL – A rare, dinosaur-era shark with a look that causes nightmares was surprisingly discovered swimming off the coast of Portugal.
The 5-foot frilled shark was unintentionally caught off the Algarve coast this summer by researchers working on a European Union project.
Newsweek reports frilled sharks have remained virtually unchanged in their 80 million years of existence, dating back to the Cretaceous Period when T-Rex ruled the planet.
Frilled sharks have a creepy mouth shape, containing more than 300 teeth that are lined up in 25 rows.
Usually living in the deep depths of the ocean, the sharks are simple creatures due to the lack of food in waters where they swim.
