Residents woke up to temperatures in the 30s and 40s.

Freeze warnings and wind chill advisories were in effect for South Florida and the Keys until 9 a.m.

Local 10 News meteorologist Jennifer Correa said the frigid temperatures broke and tied records in Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Key West.

Fort Lauderdale dipped to 32 degrees, breaking the record of 40 degrees set in 1960.

Miami tied a record low by dipping to 42 degrees. It hadn't been that cold since 1972.

Key West also set a new record low as the temperature plummeted to 49 degrees. That broke the record of 52 degrees set in 1958.

Correa said temperatures should return to normal in time for the weekend.
