According to Forbes magazine's annual list of richest Americans, plenty of billionaires are living in our own backyard.

The Top 400 list, which was released on Monday, features eight current South Florida residents.

The highest ranked among our fellow locals is Carnival Corporation chairman and Miami Heat owner Micky Arison who is #75 on the list with a net worth of $6.5 billion.

Ten slots behind Arison at #85 is developer and Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross whose bank account features a tidy sum of $6 billion.

Ross' frequent business partner Jorge Perez charts at #183 with $3.1 billion, while former Dolphins (and Marlins... and Panthers) owner Wayne Huizenga's $2.5 billion places him at #235.

Other South Floridians on the list include pharmaceutical giant and Miami Beach resident Philip Frost at #140 with $3.8B and auto magnate and public crusader Norman Braman whose $1.9 billion puts him at #340.

The richest American, according to Forbes, is Bill Gates whose net worth of $81 billion is more than the combined wealth of all the South Floridian's on the list.
