Four were from South Miami-Dade, three were near downtown Miami and one was in Miami Gardens.

While Florida is one of the 10 states with the most public school students in the country, Miami-Dade County has the fourth largest school district in the country. Broward County has the sixth largest population in the country.

Both school districts are among the highest in the state for fights and battery incident reports in the state.

There are commonalities among the high ranking schools in Miami-Dade County. They all have a high percentage of students getting free or reduced price school meals, which traditionally used to measure poverty. And the majority of the schools were also in areas that have a reported high crime rate.
