POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Pompano Beach Middle School was evacuated Tuesday morning after the school received some kind of threat, a Broward County Public Schools representative said.
Sky 10 was above the school at 310 NE Sixth St. at 9:20 a.m. as several police officers stood outside the building.
School officials said students were moved to Chester Park.
"We were inside the bus and the bus left us at Chester Park," student Sarahi Gutierrez said.
According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, the threat was a hoax and all students have returned to class. Deputies said the school is a polling location, so polls at the school were temporarily closed Tuesday during Florida's presidential primary election.
The polls have since reopened.
"I think somebody is trying to interrupt the process, because normally when I vote here all the parents will come by and drop off their kids and then if there is voting being done, they would vote," Melvin Reid said. "The atmosphere right now is that parents are collecting their children, although the all clear has been given, and the voting place is just quiet."
