POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A tip led Broward Sheriff's Office detectives to a man suspected in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a woman who was trying to cross a Pompano Beach intersection.

Amanda Crews, 39, was trying to cross Northwest 31st Avenue and Northwest Second Street about 12:45 a.m. Friday when she was struck by a blue 2005 Chevrolet Outlander, BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter said.

Crews, 39, of West Palm Beach, was taken to Broward Health North, where she remained in critical condition Wednesday.

Carter said a tipster led detectives to Jerry Mayo, who was arrested the day after the crash. She said Mayo, 43, of North Lauderdale, had already begun making repairs to his van and had the headlight that was damaged in the crash repaired.

Mayo faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash causing injuries and tampering with evidence.
