PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – It appears Gov. Ron DeSantis and House Speaker Daniel Perez, both Republicans, aren’t seeing eye to eye again.
The governor has been pushing a plan to cut property taxes. However, earlier in the week, Perez announced an idea to cut the state sales tax from 6% to 5.25%.
On Thursday, the governor posted a video X saying the House has “misplaced priorities.”
“Floridians deserve action on protecting medical freedom, strengthening laws to combat illegal immigration, relieving condo residents of higher costs, and enacting a Florida-first tax package that provides real relief to Florida residents on their property taxes,” he said in the post.
Republicans in the Florida House voted to undo millions of dollars in cost savings that I instituted last June when I signed the budget—and have voted to undo more than $60 million in cost savings over the past two months. This represents misplaced priorities.

Local 10′s Janine Stanwood spoke with Speaker Perez about the governor’s comments for an interview to air Sunday morning on “This Week in South Florida.”
“I don’t know how cutting the sales tax by 0.75 percent and having the largest tax cut in the history of the state of Florida at $4.9 billion — by the way, a cut in the sales tax that has never happened in the history of the United States — I don’t know how that’s ‘misplaced priorities,’” Perez said. “But I’d be interested in someone asking the governor if he’s interested in a cut of the sales tax.”
You can catch the full interview with Perez Sunday on “This Week in South Florida” at 11:30 a.m. on Local 10.
