DeSantis, a former legal advisor to SEAL Team One, will side with Annapolis while Hegseth, a retired U.S. Army major, will side with West Point.

If the Senate confirms Sen. Marco Rubio, as U.S. Secretary of State, DeSantis, Trump’s former Republican primary rival, will have to appoint his successor.

Fox News reported Trump asked DeSantis to appoint Lara Trump, the Republican National Committee co-chair married to Eric Trump.

Hegseth, Trump’s nominee for U.S. Defense secretary, has faced disturbing accusations including a 2017 rape. Politico reported there are questions about whether or not a Senate seat will be part of a bargain with DeSantis to take Hegseth’s place.
