MIAMI – A large pine tree collapsed damaging a Tesla and a white truck on Friday in Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood.
Jose Paonessa said the damage to the truck made it “a total loss.” He had parked it near the tree while helping his brother move.
“There was a gust of wind that knocked it over,” Paonessa said.
According to Officer Kiara Delva, a spokeswoman for the Miami Police Department, police officers, fire rescue personnel, and public works crews responded.
The damaged vehicles and what was left of the tree briefly blocked Northeast 27 Street near Biscayne Boulevard and Biscayne Bay.
Neighbor Christopher Ortega came home to a mess and told Local 10 News the owner of the home is in contact with the city about the future of the other tree and if it is a danger to the neighborhood.
“What happens if that tree falls too what happens if a gust of wind pushes it towards the house, I don’t want to be sleeping and while I’m sleeping a giant tree comes and smashes me while I’m in bed,” said Ortega. “The home owner is working to figure out what is next and if the tree will come down.”
Paonessa was concerned about another unstable tree nearby. It was leaning.
“If something like this is to happen again, someone’s life could be at risk,” Paonessa said.
