Trump supporters meet in Palm Beach after shooting FBI described as attempted assassination

Trump supporters meet at a hotel and outside Mar-a-Lago

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – After a shooting the FBI described as an attempted assassination, former President Donald Trump was in New Jersey Sunday when he announced on Truth Social that he looked forward to attending the Republican National Convention in Wisconsin.

In Palm Beach County, some of his supporters met at The Hilton Palm Beach PBI in West Palm Beach and outside Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate after watching videos of how a gunman turned a political rally Saturday in Pennsylvania into a crime scene.

Trump supporters with the Viet MAGA, Latinos Republican Palm Beach, and The Patrioteer Society had planned the event to run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Hilton, at 150 Australian Ave., in West Palm Beach, before the shooting.

While supporters met at the hotel’s Majestic ballrooms, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro identified the man the gunman killed at the rally as Corey Comperatore, a former fire chief in the area who shielded his daughter during the shooting.

“Corey died a hero. Corey dove on his family to protect them,” Shapiro said during a news conference Sunday.

Shapiro did not identify the other two men injured. Late Saturday night, the FBI identified the lone-wolf gunman who died as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.
