NAPLES, Fla. – Sen. Rick Scott reported Thursday morning that criminals attempted to “terrorize” his family by making a prank call to emergency services.

After the prank call, Scott reported dispatch then sent armed police officers to his house in Florida while he was out for dinner on Thursday night with his wife Ann Scott.

“Cowards ‘swatted; my home in Naples,” Scott wrote on social media. “These criminals wasted the time & resources of our law enforcement in a sick attempt to terrorize my family.”

Scott said he and his wife were grateful for the Naples police officers and the Collier County deputies who were working the case.

Swatting is a criminal harassment act. It’s unclear how the caller deceived the emergency service. Scott is campaigning for reelection.
