Police identify victims whose bodies found inside Hialeah home

Investigation being treated as double murder-suicide

HIALEAH, Fla. – Police have identified the victims whose bodies were found inside a Hialeah home Tuesday.

Hialeah police said officers made entry into the home about 10 p.m. Tuesday and confirmed that the three people inside had died of apparent gunshot wounds.

They were identified as Onelia Canales, 41, her 16-year-old daughter, whose name is also Onelia, and Juan Carlos Hernandez, 46.

Investigators said Hernandez shot both mother and daughter before committing suicide. They said he and the elder Canales had been married for about three months.

Sources told Local 10 that all three bodies were found in the master bedroom.

The family, neighborhood residents said, moved into the house in December.

Canales' two brothers, who discovered the bodies, returned to the home Wednesday to pick up some belongings. They didn't say much to Local 10.

Police said the investigation is being treated as a double murder-suicide with no known motive.

There is no documented history of domestic disturbances or domestic violence involving this family or at this location, according to investigators.

Police said they have no idea why Hernandez killed his wife and step-daughter, then shot himself.
