“More than 800 service outages of U.S. wireless carriers Verizon VZ.N and T-Mobile TMUS.O were also reported on the platform,” Reuters reported.
A spokesperson for T-Mobile, however, said “We did not experience an outage.”
“Our network is operating normally,” the spokesperson told Local 10 News. “Down Detector is likely reflecting challenges our customers were having attempting to connect to users on other networks.”
AT&T confirmed its outage to ABC News and advised customers to make calls over Wi-Fi.
“Some of our customers are experiencing wireless service interruptions this morning. We are working urgently to restore service to them. We encourage the use of Wi-Fi calling until service is restored,” an AT&T spokesperson said.
U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., also commented on the issue on X, saying “Florida law enforcement is doing everything it can to keep people safe, and I expect AT&T to keep us informed on what it is doing to get 911 services fully back online ASAP.”
The Miami-Dade Police Department released a statement Thursday morning regarding the safety of residents or visitors who may have been impacted by the widespread cellular outage, which you can read here:
“We are currently aware that many of our residents may have been impacted by the widespread cellular outage. The 911 system is working and there are no issues. Most cell phones can make outgoing 911 calls independently of interruption of service. However, in the event you need to call 911 and are unable to do so via your cellular service, it’s recommended that you connect to a Wi-Fi network, enable Wi-Fi Calling on your device, and update your emergency address. Your device’s location may be used to aid response efforts when you place an emergency call, regardless of whether you enable location settings.”
