Body camera video shows police shooting boy who called 911

Warning: Graphic footage

JACKSON, Miss. – Shocking body camera video has been released of a police officer in Mississippi shooting a young boy who called 911 for help.

Indianola Police Sgt. Greg Capers was responding to a call of an armed suspect, when 11-year-old Aderrien Murry, who called 911 ran into the room with his hands up and the officer shot him.

“He will never trust the cops again. He wanted to be a police officer at one time until this happened. It was just so very brutal and gross. How could any sane, trained officer shoot first and look second? I mean, this boy came out with his hands up,” said Carlos Moore, Murry’s family member.

The officer immediately called for emergency services and Murry has made a full recovery.

In December, a Mississippi grand jury found Capers did not engage in criminal conduct when he shot Murry in the chest on May 20 after police responded to a domestic dispute.

Sergeant Capers was put on unpaid leave during the investigation.

Capers was reinstalled last month.

The boy’s family is suing the police department and the city for $5 million.

The family is also asking the justice department to investigate possible civil rights violations.
