MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car Sunday in northwest Miami-Dade County, police said.

Xackery Baldwin, 41, was from Miami. He was walking with a Miami Gardens man who wasn't hurt, the Miami-Dade Police Department said.

The drivers of a gray Toyota Corolla and a red Chevrolet Cruz were headed east as the two men walked east on the south side of the road, police said.

The Corolla driver, an 87-year-old Miami man, suddenly swerved left into the lane of the Chevrolet Cruz. In an attempt to avoid the crash, the driver of the Cruz, a 70-year-old Miami woman, then swerved to the left, police said.

That caused the Corolla to veer back to the right, which is when Baldwin was hit.

Both cars stopped at Northwest 54th Street and Northwest 30th Court.

Baldwin died before he could be taken to a hospital.

The investigation continues.
